Armbinder

  • Daruma Neukölln, Berlin (map)

with Kirgami & Tenshiko

This workshop will approach the study of an armbinder (aka. strappado) from a practical and theoretical point of view, outlining its mechanical features.

The Armbinder

We will show the basic pattern of an armbinder inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics, and outline its structure. We will see together different versions to better suit the arms of the person we are tying up. At least two different patterns will be taught for more and less flexible shoulders.

Application

If the conditions allow it, we will include a practical exercise to allow the attendees to experience the mechanical response of the armbinder under stress, and the aesthetics of the tie.

During this visit, Kirigami & Tenshiko will also teach a 2 day intensive workshop, Semenawa Level 1, and give a performance.
