Our Shibari Classes are Changing!
We are excited to announce that we are changing the way we structure our shibari courses at Daruma from November onwards!
Performance: Mie Neko & Nikoleta Ginger
Two photo galleries from Mie and Nikoleta’s beautiful performance last month
Presenter Spotlight: hua hua (& performance wrap up)
hua hua visited Daruma in late June for a full weekend of workshops, and a Friday night performance on the summer solstice kicked things off: with a crowd ringing the studio space, hua hua and her model Ben offered an improvisational performance.
Presenter Spotlight: Mie Neko
Mie Neko is a rope switch from Germany, whose approach draws inspiration from a variety of contexts—dance and kink as well as semenawa, body manipulation, and use of power dynamics. Here, Mie shares more about finding her tying voice, softness as a foundation for building rope scenes, and tricks for practicing movement sequences even without a model.
Presenter Spotlight: Ron Hades
Multi-faceted performer, sex worker, kink educator and activist Ron Hades discusses with Daruma their rope and sex work journey, kink as a political act, and why it’s essential to understand the origins of what we’re practicing.
Presenter Spotlight: Ella
Daruma presenter and consent educator Ella talks to us about their path, their upcoming consent workshops and play parties at Daruma this spring, and why they believe consent is the first building block in rebuilding society in decolonial, anti-capitalist ways.
Performance: Burgundy Rose’s “Surrender”
Daruma was thrilled to welcome its first ever performance: Burgundy Rose’s Surrender: a dynamic, visceral self-suspension performance that explores the relationship between art and surrender through minimalistic rope, virtuosic spins, and contorted shapes in midair.
