Shibari Lounge

(it’s my birthday)

Date & Time:
Sunday 7th April, 2pm - 11.30pm (last entry at 7.30pm)

As a little experiment, Daruma will be open for the whole day! This will be a friendly, relaxed gathering, with a sociable atmosphere during the day, and a quieter, more focussed time for play in the evening.

Dear all,

On April 7th (as a little experiment) I have decided to open Daruma for the whole day (2pm - 11:30pm) for a friendly, relaxed gathering, and you’re invited!

I envisage the day time atmosphere being sociable, encouraging new connections, conversation and a chance to catch up with friends (and of course, tie). At around 7.30pm the doors will be shut to new admissions to help us shift to a quieter and more focussed play-type event.

Suggestions:

  • I’m open to hearing (in advance, via email) from people who might want to organise games or activities during the day.

  • Consider (optional) bringing some food for everyone to share (we have cups, glasses, cutlery, plates etc.). If possible, bring things that are vegan and/or gluten free to make this accessible to as wide a range of people as possible!

By pure coincidence, this happens to be my birthday weekend and although I usually have a mild aversion to acknowledging my birthday, the first few months of running Daruma have taken up so much of my bandwidth that I forgot to sit back and celebrate the fact that this wonderful space exists, so it would be great if you could come and help me enjoy that, and make the day a little bit special. This doesn’t mean that the event is limited only to people I know personally (in fact, the best birthday party I ever had was attended by 90% total strangers), and it also doesn’t mean that you need perform any customary birthday traditions – just dropping by and lending your presence to making the space what it is is enough. I absolutely do not want presents for myself (gift giving is not my love language and it makes me feel weird), but if you really do want to give something consider getting something for the space.

I hope to see you there!

About the space

We have a large and beautiful 100sqm main room, with a huge suspension frame, 10 Hashira, and a cosy chill out area. Additionally there is a kitchen with tea and coffee available (on a donation basis), and bottled drinks available to buy.

Please note, that Daruma has its own little dog, Anya, who is often present at events. She is very friendly, loves cuddles and attention, but knows not to interrupt people who are tying.

Arrival

From 2pm until 7.30pm arrival times are flexible, and you can drop in as you wish. At 7.30pm the doors will be closed to new admissions so that we can enjoy a more focussed play atmosphere. The event will end at around 23:30.

Daruma is located in Neukölln, Berlin. Right next to ubahn Grenzallee and a very short walk from sbahn Neükolln. Detailed instructions on how to find the space are emailed to you upon signing up!

Booking

Sliding scale: 10€ - 25€*

*if you’re just dropping in briefly to say hello (i.e. for 2 hours or less) and this seems a bit too much, please let us know at the door and feel free to pay a little less – for example using an income based sliding scale from 5€-15€

Please reserve a space using the booking system below, and remember to cancel (using the link you will receive in your confirmation email) as soon as possible if you are unable to attend as this frees up space for anyone who might be on the waiting list. To help us get an idea of the numbers we can expect throughout the day, please indicate when you sign up whether you plan to attend during the day, evening, or both.

The booking system does not take payments – please pay in cash on the door according to what you can afford. We don’t ask for proof of low income, nor do we keep any record of who is paying what.
