The Rope Jam at Daruma takes place every Thursday‡, and welcomes shibari enthusiasts of all levels and backgrounds to session, socialise, or just to watch others and get inspired.
Rope beginners and curious newcomers are super welcome, and you don't need to come with a partner in order to attend.
‡ and we really do mean every Thursday. With the exception of Thursdays 25th December 2025 and 1st January 2026, we’ve never skipped one.
What is the rope jam?
Rope jams differ a little from place to place, but broadly, they're an open space for tying and for the rope community to spend time together.
At Daruma, the host gives a short introductory talk at the start, but beyond that there's no programme and no formal teaching or instruction.
Some people arrive with tying plans already in place with a specific person. Others come alone - sometimes to self-tie, sometimes open to finding someone to tie with spontaneously, and sometimes just to spend time in the space.
It's completely fine to come to the jam and not tie. Some people are there because they feel sociable, others just want to watch. We even have a few who come to sit on a sofa and read - just because being around other people without the pressure to interact is nice sometimes.
We like to keep the Thursday evening jam focused on sessions and play, rather than labbing or practice, so we ask that you keep noise levels in the main tying space to a minimum. Noises that occur naturally in reaction to rope play are happily welcomed, as is any talking that is directly relevant to the session you’re participating in.
General conversation at a moderate level is very welcome in the chill out area, and louder conversations can take place in the kitchen.
This is a rope-focussed event, but we’re open to (and welcoming of) participants incorporating other elements of play into their rope scenes (e.g. other forms of BDSM beyond rope, sexual expression, nudity).
Rope HangoutsRope Hangouts
We like to keep our Thursday jams feeling session-focused.
If what you're after is practice & lab time, come to our Rope Hangout & Jam instead. It runs on weekend afternoons, once or twice a month, and it's built for exactly that.
Looking for practice space?
The Space
Our tying space is a beautiful 100sqm room with a huge suspension frame, bamboos, suspension rings (on request), numerous Hashira and futons to tie on. There is also a cosy chill out area, and two additional sofas around the room for you to sit and watch from.
We also have a kitchen with lots of soft drinks, tea and coffee available.
We're one flight of stairs up (13 steps, no lift) and there's one small step inside. If you have access needs you'd like to talk through before coming, just get in touch.

Regular: 10€ per person
Supporter: 15€ per person
Low income: 5€ per personPlease reserve a space using the booking system at the bottom of this page, and cancel as soon as you can if you can’t make it - it frees up a place for someone on the waiting list.
The booking system doesn’t take payment. You pay in cash on the door, according to what you can afford. We don’t ask for proof of low income, and we don’t keep a record of who pays what.

The Rope Jam at Daruma frequently reaches full capacity, but there are often a few last minute cancellations, so our booking system has a waiting list.
If you’re on it, you’ll get an automatic email whenever someone cancels. It says something about having one minute to register - that’s the shortest gap our booking system lets us set between emails, and if we could send them all at the same moment we would.
It does not mean you have one minute to sign up. The place goes to whoever gets there first. It isn’t a perfect system, but it’s the fairest one available to us without adding a lot of work for our team.

Some people may choose to dress casually and comfortably, some prefer to dress up a bit, and others prefer lingerie or very minimal clothing. All of these are welcome; none are expected or required. Please check the details relating to the specific event you are coming to.
We recommend that you wear something suitable for movement and sitting on the floor. Jeans, belts and underwired bras can be uncomfortable to tie in. Something to keep warm can be nice to have before and after tying (although we do have lots of blankets!)
The studio is a shoe-free space-so bringing some cosy socks could be nice, especially during winter months.
